A woman has died after her car broke down early Saturday morning on Beltway 8, according to Houston police.

The woman, who is in her twenties or thirties, stopped her Ford Fusion car shortly before 2 a.m. in the eastbound lane of Beltway 8 over Vickery Drive, after it had some type of mechanical failure.

After stopping her car in the lane next to the exit, another person driving a Nissan Pathfinder attempted to swerve away from her car but ended up hitting the driver’s side.

The woman got out of her vehicle. When she exited, a Mitsubishi Gallant driving up struck and killed her while she stood next to her car.

The drivers of both the Pathfinder and the Gallant stopped at the scene.

The eastbound lanes of Beltway 8 were closed to traffic for hours while Houston police investigated the scene.

It appears that no charges will be filed against the drivers because the woman was in a moving lane of traffic.
