United Airlines says Hurricane Harvey will hit Q3 profits hard

United Airlines is preparing some 87,000 employees for what increasingly looks to be a major financial hit from Hurricane Harvey. In a letter to employees Sept. 6, United CFO Andrew Levy said the airline’s third-quarter financial guidance would be below initial expectations of 12.5 percent to 14.5 percent pre-tax margins. “We now project a pre-tax margin in the range of 8 to 10 percent,” wrote Levy.
