A parking lot shooting left one man dead and another in the hospital Sunday morning after a dispute boiled over into gunfire.

Just after midnight, a man and a woman were arguing outside a convenience store on Buffalo Speedway near Fuqua when an unidentified man pulled up in a gray, four-door sedan, jumped out and opened fire.

The gunman fired five to six shots, hitting the man involved in the dispute as well as a man standing nearby.

The bystander was shot in the chest and later died at the hospital, while the other victim was hit in the leg and taken to Memorial Hermann in stable condition, according to Houston police.

The man who died does not appear to have been a target of the gunfire and police believe he was shot accidentally.

It’s not clear what sparked the dispute and authorities did not immediately release the names of those involved.

Afterward, the suspected shooter hopped back in his car and fled the scene. The woman, who was apparently not hit, vanished before police arrived.
