While Texas is filled with Southern charm and hospitality, but the sad reality is that crime is still a major factor in the Lone Star State.

Texas is 15th in the nation for the most violent crime rate per 100,000 people, so finding the safest cities in Texas to live in is likely a priority for many.

The National Council for Home Safety and Security pulled data from the 2015 FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics, in addition, to independently gathered research to find the 40 safest cities in the Lone Star State.

The cities, which are defined as having populations higher than 5,000 people, were ranked based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) per 100,000 people.

As you likely guessed, none of Texas major metropolises landed on the ranking, though a few of their nearby suburbs reached the top 40 list.
