Texans looking to party in Austin for the Fourth of July holiday will face a damper on their partying: personal watercrafts won’t be permitted on Lake Austin.

According to the Austin Police Department, jet skis, wet bikes, motorized surfboards and similar devices won’t be allowed on Lake Austin starting at sunset on Monday and ending Wednesday at sunrise.

“The annual ban of personal watercraft is necessary to ensure the safety of the large number of people that make use of the lake and parks over the July 4th Holiday Weekend,” Austin police said in a release. “This ban only applies to Lake Austin.”

Non-motorized devices such as kayaks, canoes and paddle boards will be allowed during the ban.

Police will be patrolling Lake Austin this weekend and urge people to call 911 if they see reckless boat operators.

For more information, call the APD Lake Patrol Unit at 512-329-8841.
