While some people would rather forget Hurricane Harvey, more than a few Texans are opting for a more permanent reminder that a hurricane can’t wash away.
Showing Texas pride via a tattoo is not a new thing by any means, but since Texas endured the devastation of Harvey, more people are getting Texas-related tattoos.

The rallying cries “Texas Strong” and “Houston Strong” became common on social media, shirts and other merchandise. It didn’t take long for the sentiment to move into a more permanent direction, Texans being the brave breed that we are.
Soon, tattoo artists and tattoo shops were cranking out sheets of designs for customers to choose from, using nautical imagery, yellow roses and other traditional Texas motifs.
In the days after the storm, a few tattoo shops in Houston and around the rest of the state began offering up special Texas tattoos with portions of the proceeds, if not all, going to Harvey relief. The designs are simple, mainly the outline of the state and some script.
Prices started at $40 at most shops for the designs. Depending on time available, artists did outline-only tattoos without color, while others went all out with color and shading.

Some shops, like Awesome Tattoos in Montrose, made sure that proceeds went to the charity of the customer’s choice like the Houston SPCA or the Houston Food Bank.
Texas Body Art, with two locations in the Houston area, raised close to $18,000 from doing 266 tattoos with the funds from the ink going to the J.J. Watt Hurricane Harvey fundraiser.
These Texas tattoo collectors will always have something to remember Hurricane Harvey by and hopefully the proceeds will go to improve the lives of fellow Texans.
