MLB Network Insider Ken Rosenthal was first to report the deal.

Maybin was slashing .235/.333/.351 with six home runs this season. He has 29 steals, which is his best mark in six seasons. Maybin is now tied for the American League lead in stolen bases with Jose Altuve, which means the Astros would have the top two basestealers in the AL if this deal becomes official.

The deal comes at an important time, as players must be acquired before midnight ET to become eligible for postseason rosters.

The Astros’ acquisition could spell less playing time for rookie left fielder Derek Fisher and defensive ace Jake Marisnick. Through 117 Major League plate appearances this year, Fisher is slashing .218/.325/.376, while Marisnick is hitting .248/.323/.509 with a career-high 16 home runs.

Maybin, who is quite familiar with Astros manager A.J. Hinch from their days together in San Diego, is slated to become a free agent at the end of the season.

Maybin’s best season came in 2011, when he posted 4.3 WAR and stole 40 bases.
