Officials in Wylie, Texas are continuing their search of a 17-year-old man who jumped off a party boat, into Lake Lavon at roughly 3 p.m. Sunday.

Texas Game Wardens Captain Tony Norton told multiple sources that the missing man was on the vessel with a church group near the Collin Park Marina in Wylie, a town roughly 20 miles northeast of central Dallas.

“If you’re going to be on the boat on water in Texas, please wear your life jacket. We just recently had two on a private lake that’s not required to have a life jacket, and they perished as well, Norton told Fox4. “So it doesn’t matter if it’s private or public, it will save your life.”

The search was temporarily suspended at night and resumed early Monday. The Collin County Sheriff’s Office dive team and Wylie Fire Department‘s dive team are working to find the man, whose identity has not been released.

This North Texas district typically sees eight to nine drownings per year, the Game Warden explained. So far this summer there have already been nine incidents.
