Houston Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee recently reacted to the firing of top Trump advisor Steve Bannon on Friday.

“Steven Bannon has a long history of promoting racial and ethnic bigotry, sexism, religious intolerance, and misogyny,” said Lee in a prepared statement in which she applauded the removal of the White House Chief Strategist.

Lee criticized Bannon for his former leadership of Breitbart, a far-right news site she called “the media arm of the racist ‘Alt-Right’ movement.”

“However, the removal of a hateful demagogue like Bannon is worthless so long as the inflammatory, reckless, and insensitive rhetoric and tactics employed by the Trump campaign continue to be a part of this Administration’s standard operating procedure,” Lee said.

“It is my sincere hope that the firing of Steve Bannon will precipitate not only a full purge of all remaining personnel that share the views of the ‘Alt-Right’ in the White House, but also a wholesale disavowal of the racist ideology that clearly informs the Trump Administration’s decisions,” she said.

According to The New York Times, Trump claimed it was his decision to remove Bannon, although a person close to the former Breitbart head honcho said leaving the administration was his idea.
