Crime: Hastings, a former teacher at Ozen, was accused of striking astudent on April 8. The video caught national attention Hastings was fired from BISD 11 days after the incident.

Name: James Vanwright

Age: 50

Crime: Authorities found Vanwright in the historic Port Arthur White Haven house in July, drinking a Pina Colada naked, according to police reports. He was accused of breaking into the historic site.

Name: Joinae Loreal Powell

Age:25

Crime: Powell was arrested for DWI and evading arrest in November. According to police reports, when a BPD officer approached Powell’s car, she was unconscious with a 3-year-old on her lap. When she saw the officer, she sped off and eventually crashed into an interstate barrier.

Name: Ron Cooper

Age: 30

Crime: Cooper was accused, in November, of assault, after allegedly punching a U.S. postal carrier in the face. Cooper walked up to the postal carrier’s vehicle and punched him without giving a reason, according to officials.

Name: Charlsie Rebecca Jones
Age: 58
Crime: Jones was accused of shooting her husband, Lee Jones,  to death death in April. According to police reports, officials found the husband’s body in the upstairs bedroom of their home. After being indicted in September, Charlsie posted bond of $250,000 and was released. less

Name: Ethel Marie Eulian

Age: 47

Crime: Eulian was accused of shooting her fiancee, Christopher Jeffries, five times on Feb. 19, according to police reports. She also admitted to wrapping his body in bed sheets and hiding his body in a bedroom, according to an arrest affidavit. Jeffries was a former police officer with the Port Arthur Police Department. Eulian was sentenced to 40 years in prison on Oct. 7.

Name: Kurt Picard

Age: 52

Crime: In September, Picard, a local PGA pro, was accused of having sexual relations with one of his female golf students, according to police reports. According to the probable cause affidavit, Picard and the student had two sexual encounters and would constantly communicate through WhatsApp. Picard was arrested when the student’s parents found explicit text messages, according to the affidavit.

Age: 67

Crime: Turner was accused of shooting Shalala Fletcher to death on July 2. The night of the shooting, Fletcher was a passenger in a car that two alleged beer thieves were trying to leave in, according to police records. The records state that Turner tried to prevent them from leaving and fired multiple shots, striking Fletcher in the back.

Crime: Madison was accused of sexually assaulting a 3-month-old child in August.

Name: Tyrece Harris

Age: 17

Crime: According to police reports, Harris was accused of shooting Jimmy Bertrand to death in April. Three months later, Harris was also accused of being involved in 15 other robbery cases, that targeted foreign students from Lamar, between March and April.

Name: Jacques Germaine McDaniel

Age: 17

Crime: McDaniel was accused of shooting and killing Christopher Gibson, on June 2, according to police reports. Gibson was found inside a vehicle parked in a ditch in the city’s South Park neighborhood, official reports stated.

Age: 38

Crime: In May, Bluitt was accussed of engaging in organized criminal activity in connection to a dog fighting ring uncovered in Beaumont in March 2016, according to official reports.

Name: Irvin Rojas

Crime: Rojas pleaded guilty to federal drug and weapon charges, in September, according to officials. A March traffic stop led police back to Rojas’ house, where they found heroin, cocaine and guns, which revealed details in a drug ring, according to police reports. less

Crime: Guerrero, Izaguirre, Visinais were arrested for possession of approximately 24.4 kilos of liquid meth, during a Beaumont traffic stop in May, according to police reports. The drugs, estimated to be valued in the millions, were found to be concealed in 12 ounce cans and clear bouncing balls. During the investigation, it was revealed that the three occupants of the vehicle were traveling from Mexico back to the state of Georgia. All three were arrested and transported to the Jefferson County Jail.
