A 28-year-old man died and another was injured after a large SUV ran over them during a Fourth of July party in New Caney, authorities said.

Lt. John Schmitt with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said someone driving a large SUV ran over two men just after midnight in the 18,200 block of Emerald Court.

Schmitt said witnesses provided conflicting accounts of the vehicle – possibly a tan or white older-model Tahoe or a Yukon – and the driver, who drove off after the accident.

“It’s still really undetermined,” he said.

There were about 80 to 100 people at the party, he said, adding that many of the witnesses had been drinking alcohol.

Authorities are not yet releasing the name of the man who died around 6:30 a.m. Sunday at the hospital.
Anyone with information is asked to call 936-760-5876.
