A Houston man was sentenced to life in prison on Friday for his role in a March 2015 deadly shooting outside a popular Midtown nightclub.

Damondre Blackshire, 18, was sentenced after pleading guilty to the murder of Juan Carlos Ramirez, 22, in the parking lot of the F Bar at 202 Tuam near Helena, according to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

Blackshire also was convicted of shooting another man during an armed robbery but that victim survived, authorities said.

Houston police said Blackshire, then a juvenile, robbed Ramirez at gunpoint soon after he and a woman left the nightclub. Ramirez resisted and was fatally shot.

Blackshire fled in the woman’s car. Police tracked down the stolen car and took him into custody.

Ramirez’s family has filed a civil lawsuit against the club, accusing them of negligence. They are seeking $1 million in the ongoing suit.
