Houston ISD is investigating an incident at Longfellow Elementary in southwest Houston where it was reported that an inappropriate image was shown to students during a presentation.

HISD senior media relations specialist, Ashley Anthony, said the school notified parents of children in the 5th grade class of the incident when it happened last week.

“An inappropriate image inadvertently appeared while a teacher attempted to show students a YouTube video about butterflies,” a statement released by the school district read. “School administrators were notified along with the district’s IT department, which is reviewing the matter.”

Anthony said the image was not pornographic in nature and featured two women kissing. HISD internet filters do not block “appropriate LGBT sites” at the high school level and on employee computers, Anthony said.

A father with a daughter in the fifth grade class told KTRK the teacher exposed pornography to the classroom.

“I’m mad about it. Something needs to be done immediately,” he told the station. “It was two women. They were naked and they were kissing, that was one pop-up. The other video had a font or text saying, ‘If you want to watch lesbian porn, click here.'”
