“It’s definitely crazy,” Jankowski said. “It’s definitely a cool experience, and I’m just glad we won.”

The Astros were trailing, 8-2, when Jankowski threw his last pitch in the seventh, but he became the pitcher of record when Houston erupted for 11 runs in the eighth. Because he threw so many pitches (46) and would have been out of action for a couple of days, the Astros optioned him to Triple-A and will call up a fresh arm in time for Tuesday’s game.

“It was awesome to watch those guys battle and put up those kinds of innings,” Jankowski said. “It was kind of a special thing that never really happens, so it was cool to be a part of that.”
