Last week, Houston-area roads often looked like either a river basin or a ghost town as the city was recovering from Hurricane Harvey.

This week it’s a different story as everyone is slowly returning to normalcy as they head back to work.

Local drivers can definitely tell the difference on the roadways.

THE REASON: Traffic on Houston roads is terrible and this is why it’s so bad

Many residents said that the roads are so bad, they feel like they are living in Los Angeles, which is notorious for their grid-locked traffic.

With several major roadways still closed due to flooding – including portions of Beltway 8, Memorial Drive and Allen Parkway – the drivers who normally take those routes are forced onto alternative roadways, which is causing major headaches for drivers throughout the city.

On Wednesday morning, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner tweeted, “This will be a rough week for traffic as we get back on our feet. Streets blocks in the west and signals out in many places. Patience required.” He followed that tweet informing citizens that there are currently 73 of 2,500 traffic lights that are out of service, though he says many of those will be fixed today.

Regardless of the work being done to ease traffic woes, Houston residents aren’t holding back on creating hilarious memes to express their frustrations with the conditions of the roads.
