TALL KID: Houston Zoo’s new giraffe finally has name
The giraffe was born on Monday born just after 8 a.m. to Asali, a second-time mom, according to zoo staff. The newborn follows two-week-old Zindzhi, another female Masai giraffe, who was born on April 17.
The giraffe and her mother are currently being watched over by zoo staff to ensure that everything is running smoothly with the duo.
FINALLY: April the giraffe finally gives birth to healthy baby boy
As with Zindzhi, the newborn giraffe will likely be named within days and make a public debut in a few days. Typically newborn giraffes weigh around 150 pounds and stand 6 feet tall. They also grow rather fast and she won’t be small for very long. Keep in mind that giraffes are the tallest living terrestrial animals.
The zoo is now home to seven Masai giraffes, one of the nine subspecies of giraffes.
