Houston-area school district first in Texas to issue ‘green bonds’ for new projects

The Fort Bend Independent School District, which serves an area southwest of Houston, is issuing “green bonds” to fund environmentally friendly construction of three new schools. The district plans to roll out about $99 million in bonds this month with about $52 million designated as “green,” according to a release. The bonds are part of a $484 million bond package approved by the district’s voters in 2014. It’s the first time in Texas a school district has issued green bonds, per the release.…
