“I have spoken to HSCO family members who still are unable to reach their flooded homes,” Gonzaelz said in a release. “Some have suffered injuries, both physically and emotionally. Many of you are displaced and have lost all your worldly possessions. Your uniforms and equipment have been ruined. You need help. I want you to know that your HCSO family is here for you, and that we want to help you get back on your feet.”

Gonzalez is encouraging staff members to tap into the HCSO Benevolence Association if they need relief. Deputies interested in getting help can contact Lt. Don Savell at 832-233-4387 or email him at donald.savell@sheriff.hctx.net. Donations to the benevolence association can be made through Paypal.

Deputies whose department-issued vests have been damaged by the flood are encouraged to contact deputy Kathyrn Martin at 281-536-2645 or at kathyrn.martin@sheriff.hctx.net.

Deputies who have lost or damaged other department-issued duty gear should contact Mary Macaluso at 713-274-9283 or at mary.macaluso@sherff.hctx.net.

“Finally, I understand that the law enforcement community is a proud community,” Gonzalez said. “We tend to be the ones who offer help, not the ones who seek it. But this is not the time for any of us to be on our own. We need each other, and we all need a hand at some time in our lives.

“If you are in need, accept a little help, because the sooner you are back on your feet, the sooner you will be serving the people of Harris County at your highest level. We need you to be 100 percent.”
