Hundreds of people gathered Saturday to say a final farewell to the three children killed in a house fire in Tamina earlier this month.

Terrance “TJ” Mitchell, 13; Kaila Mitchell, 7; and Kyle Mitchell, 6, perished in the blaze. Their brother, 10-year-old Adrian Mitchell, was among those at the service.

Their grandfather and pastor Bobby Johnson, 59, pastor of the Thergood Memorial Church of God in Christ in Willis was critically injured in the fire. His son Jarvis Johnson, 34, was also hurt trying to rescue the children. Story continues below.

Family remembered Terrance as “our star.” The teen served on the usher board and in the youth choir for Theregood Memorial Church of God. “His heart was so big you had no choice but to love him and a smile that would light up a room,” according to his obituary. Kyle was also active in the church and always went out of his way to make people smile, family said.

Kaila “was such a joy to be around forever, giving hugs and kisses. Our one and only little girl,” the obituary read.
