A former Katy ISD choir teacher charged with invasive improper photography was given 10 years of probation on Monday.

Former Mayde Creek High School assistant choir director Clarence Appleby, 28, was arrested October 2016 after he was caught with a video recording of a 17-year-old female student on campus.

According to Chron.com’s previous reporting of the incident, Appleby asked the student to go into a closet and try on all of the choir gowns without her undergarments on so “to show no lines in the gown.”

After she tried on her third gown, the student noticed a camera recording her in the closet. She called her mother and took the recording device.

Appleby asked the student if she took anything from the closet and she told him she took the camera. He plugged it into the computer and showed her the video and she deleted it.
