A man was killed Saturday morning after a fire blazed inside his northeast Houston home, according to the Houston Fire Department.

Firefighters were able to quickly make it to the house on Boicewood after learning shortly before 11 a.m. about the incident, according to a spokesman from the Houston Fire Department.

They found the 80-year-old victim inside the kitchen and removed him from the home, the spokesman said.

He was transported to an area hospital but later died.

HFD Arson is currently investigating the fire, but believe it may have been accidental and caused by unattended food left cooking on the stove.

A neighbor apparently tried to break out a house window to help the victim escape, but was unsuccessful, the spokesman said.

Neighbors said the elderly man lived alone.
