DPS warns of increased Memorial Day Weekend presence

Ahead of what is sure to be a busy, party-packed Memorial Day weekend, the Texas Department of Public Safety reminded Texans that troopers will once again be out in force to keep roadways safe from drunk drivers. 

PREVIOUS: Houston police officer relieved of duty after drunk driving arrest

According to a release on Wednesday, DPS troopers wrote some 45,000 tickets and warnings during the same weekend in 2016. Of those there were 386 DWI arrests. There were also 836 seat belt and child seat violations. 

Every year DPS also takes part in the the state’s “Click It or Ticket” enforcement campaign which runs through June 4. They just want us to wear our seat belts. It’s not a lot to ask.

Of course we all know that impaired driving of any kind is incredibly wrong and can lead to accidents and deaths. There are ways of getting around drunk driving like ride-sharing apps, sober friends, cabs, and public transportation.
