A Coast Guard helicopter crew pulled three men to safety early Tuesday from their disabled shrimp boat near Port O’Connor, officials said.
The crew of the Scatterbrain, a 67-foot shrimp boat with three people aboard, broke down late Monday and was adrift about five miles from land. Because of the shallow water depth, Coast Guard boat crews were unable to reach them, officials said.
A Coast Guard helicopter was dispatched and arrived in the area about 4:15 a.m. Tuesday. The crew hoisted the three men to safety and took them to Calhoun County’s airport. They were not injured.
Coast Guard officials said they are working with the owner to of the boat to safely recover it and minimize any environmental harm.
