The health care organization that owns Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center in Houston this week laid off another 459 employees at its three Texas systems.

The most recent layoffs bring the organization’s Texas total since August to 810.

Catholic Health Initiatives’ Texas division on Thursday confirmed it had eliminated 620 positions through a combination of layoffs, attrition, and other departures. The reduction represents less than 4 percent of CHI’s workforce in Texas.

“Like other hospital systems here in Texas and across the nation, we recently announced we are working to restructure the CHI Texas division to respond to continued changes in the health care environment,” the organization said in a statement. “While we have made significant improvements in the past few months, we must continue to institute critical organizational changes to further realign our financial performance to sustain and grow our network of care across southeast Texas.

The CHI divisions previously announced workforce reductions of 230 positions, including 60 layoffs, in August; 346 positions, including 202 layoffs, in January; and 89 positions, all layoffs, in February.

CHI has eight hospitals in the Houston area. Another nine are located in CHI’s Texas systems in the Bryan-College Station area and east Texas.
