How well do you know your Texas insects?

With the temperature dialing upward and people spending more time outside, you’re bound to run into some creepy, crawling insects. Not all of them are poisonous or bad for your health, though. Some are worth keeping alive as they help to control the population of other insects considered to be a pest.

Texas A&M has a good list identifying common insects found in Texas. 


Among the nastiest bugs found in the state is the kissing bug, which can transmit Chagas disease. Symptoms include fever, fatigue, headaches, body aches, rash and loss of appetite. If you come across one, don’t pick it up or let it touch your skin. It’s best to avoid it all together.
