Rice University racers sloshed around the track Saturday for the annual Beer Bike competition.

Sound strange? It’s uniquely Rice  – and it just crossed its 60-year mark.

In the relay-style event, one team member must chug a notable amount of beer or water before the team’s cyclists start a lap around the track. (Bicyclists do not drink alcohol, and neither does anyone under 21, Rice officials note.)

It’s the culmination of a week of events, including Beer Debates and International Beer night.
