The potential for heavy rain this weekend will keep the Texas Department of Transportation from working on two projects.

Spokesman Danny Perez said planned work on Interstate 10 at Houston Avenue and Interstate 45 at Fuqua will occur June 9 to 12 instead.

TEXAS STORMS: Funnel clouds formed west of Houston, light damage reported

At Houston Avenue, Perez said some maintenance work was planned but can’t be finished in the rain. At Faqua, stripping is planned and won’t be successful if it’s raining.

“We want folks to stay safe out there with any kind of rain situation,” Perez said. “We’re asking folks to slow down and to know where they’re going before they head out, so they don’t end up in traffic. Check Houston Transtar for conditions.”

HURRICANES: After quiet seasons, Texas best be ready for a storm this hurricane season

National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Kyle said there is 40 percent chance of showers in the Houston area on Saturday with a high of 87 degrees. On Sunday, there’s a 68 percent chance of rain with a high of 87 degrees.

“Some folks will probably see more substantial amounts of rain. A few isolated areas could see up to an inch or two,” Kyle said.

Kyle said the forecast in the Houston area calls for rain following into early next week.
