HOUSTON — Although the Astros used five pitchers to record 16 strikeouts against the Rangers on Tuesday, Texas second baseman Rougned Odor powered home runs in back-to-back innings, boosting the Rangers to their fifth straight road win, 4-2, against the Astros at Minute Maid Park.
Buoyed by Odor’s fifth career multi-homer game, the Rangers clinched the series against the American League West-leading Astros and evened their record at 32-32. Odor’s seven career home runs at Minute Maid are the most he’s hit at any road park.
Prior to Odor’s homer spree, Astros starter Brad Peacock fanned eight of the first 12 batters he faced, and seven before the fourth inning, en route to a season-high 10. Peacock pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings before his fourth walk scored a run with the bases loaded in the fifth.
For Houston, George Springer and Carlos Correa rifled solo home runs off Rangers starter Nick Martinez, who lasted six innings and gave up five hits and those two runs – his only blemishes during his longest outing since May 13.
With the loss, Houston is on a three-game losing streak for the third time this season.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Rougned’s second rocket: On a 90.1-mph fastball from Astros reliever Luke Gregerson in the eighth inning, Odor pelted his second homer of the game to the Crawford Boxes in left field. The tie-breaking two-run shot traveled an estimated 346 feet, according to Statcast™.
Harris foils Rangers’ chance: In the top of the fifth, with the bases loaded after a pair of singles and a fielder’s choice, Peacock walked in a run before being pulled for Will Harris. Harris used two pitches to get Elvis Andrus to pop out to Correa at shortstop, holding the Rangers to one run.
