Army officials identified a Fort Hood-based soldier who apparently drowned over the weekend in Belton Lake as Spec. 4 David Folly Ananou, 30.

His body was found Sunday by Temple police just off Temple Lake Park, Fort Hood officials said.

Ananou was an infantry soldier assigned to 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment – part of the 1st Cavalry Division. He had been assigned there since March 2015.

A Baltimore native, Ananou joined the Army in October 2014. His military decorations include the Army Achievement Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Korea Defense Service Medal.

The Temple Police Department is leading the investigation into his death.
