An aspiring actor from Houston was killed in New York City on Friday in what is being called a random act of violence.

George Carroll, 42, was walking home with his wife, Christina, Friday evening after looking at apartments when two men hanging out near the steps of a school in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint area said something to him.

“It was basically, ‘What are you looking at?’ ” Christina Carroll said, according to the New York Post. “And my husband — he’s a Texan — he’s like, ‘I’m looking.'”

More Information

George Carroll was born in Houston and grew up in Corpus Christi before moving to New York in 2001 to pursue a career in acting.

“George was a playwright and actor who loved deeply and passionately, He was fiercely loyal, and stood up for what was right. His faith was his true north and he attended mass daily,” Christina Carroll wrote on GoFundMe where she has raised nearly $14,000 for his funeral. “I love him, I’m in shock, this doesn’t feel real…every time I hear a bike chime I turn around to see if it’s him.”

According to IMDB, the Carrolls both wrote “Drunken Freestyle: An Interview with 2Pac.”
